McDonald\u2019s Saipan donated cash to the Salvation Army yesterday at their branch on Middle Road.<\/p>\n
The management of the fast food chain gave $1,000 to Salvation Army to help with their recovery efforts on island due to Typhoon Soudelor\u2019s impact.<\/p>\n
“When I heard about the work that the Salvation Army was doing at their Soup Kitchen and learned about the overwhelming amount of people that they’ve served over the weeks, I was moved to help contribute to their cause,” said McDonald’s Saipan president\/owner Joe Ayuyu.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn behalf of my family, this is a help to the Salvation Army,\u201d owner Marcia Ayuyu said, \u201cWe were thinking of a way to help out so we decided just to give the money so it can help them purchase food.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to McDonald\u2019s Mable Ayuyu, this donation marks the first cash donation that McDonald’s has made to an organization supporting typhoon relief efforts.<\/p>\n
“Our goal with this donation was to donate to an organization that has helped to provide direct assistance to those in need, immediately following Typhoon Soudelor. We recognize the hard work that the Salvation Army has done over the past month and are proud to support them as they move toward providing long-term recovery to our community,\u201d Mable Ayuyu said.<\/p>\n
Salvation Army\u2019s Pastor Wayne Gillespie said they are grateful for the donation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re very happy and proud to work with the folks at McDonald\u2019s. The Ayuyu family and their team are involved in the local community,\u201d Gillespie said.<\/p>\n
Gillespie also commended Mable Ayuyu, chairwoman of the Saipan Young Professionals, for their volunteer work at the soup kitchen. He noted that SYP is among those who helped Salvation Army with their mass feeding program right from the beginning.<\/p>\n
