{"id":210135,"date":"2015-09-10T06:06:39","date_gmt":"2015-09-09T20:06:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=210135"},"modified":"2015-09-10T06:06:39","modified_gmt":"2015-09-09T20:06:39","slug":"repair-of-weather-heads-up-to-homeowners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/repair-of-weather-heads-up-to-homeowners\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Repair of weather heads up to homeowners\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Commonwealth Utilities Corp. crew will aim to go to every service connection and let homeowners know of the condition of their wires, weather heads, and meter sockets that may need to be fixed, says acting CUC executive director John Riegel.<\/p>\n<p>But the repairs of these weather heads are the responsibility of the homeowner, according to Riegel.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cIf there\u2019s a problem\u2026they will let the homeowners know,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Riegel was clarifying reports about why some houses near main power lines have been reenergized while others nearby are not.<\/p>\n<p>He clarified that damaged weather heads are the homeowner\u2019s responsibility to repair. CUC, though, can assist and inspect if the weather head\u2014which accepts wire from power poles\u2014are good to \u201chook up\u201d to the main.<\/p>\n<p>When asked to clarify reports about political pressure to have certain areas of island hooked up, Riegel said he has not gotten any calls from politicians.<\/p>\n<p>Riegel said there has been some push for Rota and Tinian housing units associated with the local hospital to get power, but other than that, he has not gotten any calls.<\/p>\n<p>Riegel said CUC\u2019s next big task is to facilitate the arrival of more power poles and transformers.<\/p>\n<p>CUC will no longer be shipping hundreds of power poles via airlift, as it has been found too \u201cexpensive and impractical,\u201d according to Riegel.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of just three trips, they\u2019ve estimated that the plane assigned to airlift poles will require a couple more trips, for example, to get the needed poles to the island.<\/p>\n<p>He said the poles will instead be shipped.
