{"id":210563,"date":"2015-09-16T06:06:17","date_gmt":"2015-09-15T20:06:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=210563"},"modified":"2015-09-16T06:06:17","modified_gmt":"2015-09-15T20:06:17","slug":"car-catches-fire-on-capital-hill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/car-catches-fire-on-capital-hill\/","title":{"rendered":"Car catches fire on Capital Hill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A fire of still unknown cause engulfed a vehicle along the main road going up Capital Hill yesterday morning.<\/p>\n<p>No one was injured or treated at the scene for medical complaints, according to Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Derek Gersonde yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Gersonde said DFEMS received a call about a vehicle fire on Capital Hill at 9:43am, prompting firefighters from Kagman Fire Station and Search and Rescue Unit from Garapan Fire Station to immediately respond.<\/p>\n<p>Arson investigators also responded.<\/p>\n<p>Gersonde said the fire was extinguished and placed under control by 9:56am.<\/p>\n<p>Arson investigators determined that there was a mechanical issue with the vehicle, but they are still looking into the cause of the blaze, Gersonde said.<\/p>\n<p>The DFEMS spokesman said as of yesterday they were still checking if the vehicle belonged to the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpdates will be released when they are available,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The report did not mention the type of the vehicle and who the operator was.<\/p>\n<p>Last June 26, the burning of coconut husks as mosquito repellant caused the fire to spread to a parked van and a house\u2019s garage in As Perdido.
