Popular Korean TV comedian Sung Beom Kang is expected to attend the Korean community\u2019s annual celebration of the Full Moon Festival this Sunday at the Saipan World Resort\u2019s Royal Taga Hall starting at 5pm.<\/p>\n
Kang, one of the actors of Korean sketch comedy TV show \u201cGag Concert,\u201d will arrive this Friday for a three-night stay on Saipan, according to Korean Association of Saipan officials.<\/p>\n
Association president Hong Kyun Kim invited Kang to headline the Korean community\u2019s celebration of the Full Moon Festival, which is similar to the United States\u2019 Thanksgiving tradition.<\/p>\n
Association treasurer Kyu Jin Hong and secretary Ho Joon Joo told Saipan Tribune yesterday that Kang agreed to waive his fees after learning that Saipan was devastated by Typhoon Soudelor.<\/p>\n
Sangdon Yoon, the Korean consul general for Guam and the CNMI, and Department of Public Safety Commissioner James C. Deleon Guerrero will also grace the event.<\/p>\n
The association will use the occasion to present awards to two outstanding police officers and two firefighters. DPS and the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services have been asked to submit the names of select officers and firefighters.<\/p>\n
Hong said it would be the first time for the association to present awards to outstanding police officers and firefighters on Saipan as a way to express the Korean community\u2019s appreciation for their hard work.<\/p>\n
It was Hong\u2019s suggestion to recognize deserving police officers and firefighters, citing his experience in New York where he lived for 20 years, where the Korean association there would give awards during every Full Moon Festival.<\/p>\n
Hong said the group on Saipan under the leadership of their president, Kim, wants to develop good relations with police officers, firefighters, and other members of law enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
