A fire of unknown cause broke out at a container van at the seaport in Puerto Rico, while another blaze occurred at a chiller in a store in San Antonio. Both incidents happened over the weekend.<\/p>\n
No one was reported injured or provided treatment for medical complaints at the scene, according to Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services yesterday.<\/p>\n
DFEMS spokesman Derek Gersonde told Saipan Tribune that both incidents resulted in minor damage.<\/p>\n
Gersonde said they received a call on Saturday at 10:33pm about a container that was on fire at the seaport in Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n
Gersonde said DFEMS firefighters responded from Susupe Fire Station along with medics from the Garapan Fire Station. Arson investigators also arrived at the scene.<\/p>\n
Gersonde said at 10:48pm, firefighters extinguished the blaze and placed it under control.<\/p>\n
He said Arson Investigation Unit is still trying to determine the cause of the fire that caused minor damage to office supplies in the van, owned by Saipan Stevedore.<\/p>\n
In the second fire, DFEMS received a call from the Department of Public Safety Central on Sunday at 7:56am about a possible structure fire at the San Antonio Market.<\/p>\n
Gersonde said DFEMS firefighters from Susupe Fire Station responded, but at 7:59am, DPS called DFEMS back telling them that the fire was extinguished by the store\u2019s owners.<\/p>\n
Arson investigators arrived at the store.<\/p>\n
Arson Investigation Unit as of yesterday was still looking into the cause of the fire.<\/p>\n
Gersonde said the San Antonio Market was issued a stop order after investigators found out that it has no fire permit.<\/p>\n
He said the fire caused minor damage to the bottom of the chiller.<\/p>\n
At the time, the establishment was closed.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, DFEMS in partnership with the American Red Cross will be distributing free water donated by Anheuser-Busch to the public.<\/p>\n
Households of one to three members will be given a case of water and households of four and above will be given two cases daily.<\/p>\n
The water can be picked up at the following Fire Stations: Station 1-Susupe; Station 2-Garapan; Station 4-Koblerville; and Station 5-Kagman. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
