{"id":212498,"date":"2015-10-15T07:21:10","date_gmt":"2015-10-14T21:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=212498"},"modified":"2015-10-15T07:21:10","modified_gmt":"2015-10-14T21:21:10","slug":"permit-for-animu-statue-in-the-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/permit-for-animu-statue-in-the-works\/","title":{"rendered":"Permit for Animu statue in the works"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office, together with the Liberation Day Committee and Skywalker Communications Group, is seeking permission to set up a statue of Animu, the Liberation Day mascot.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mayor David M. Apatang, the committee and the group wrote a letter to the Department of Public Lands about this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are communicating with Public Lands,\u201d Apatang said. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to find a place for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letter, according to Apatang, sought to set up an appointment with DPL to talk about the building of the Animu statue but the department cancelled the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re supposed to meet and discuss but they cancelled and they said that most likely the Secretary [of Public Lands] will approve,\u201d Apatang said.<\/p>\n<p>Apatang wasn\u2019t able to give specifications on the statue with regards to its size and what material will be used other than that it will be big and permanent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs long as they don\u2019t deface it or anything like that,\u201d Apatang said.<\/p>\n<p>He said they are looking at the Paseo de Marianas in Garapan as the place where to have a statue or two of Animu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the place where people go to. The tourists\u2026can stand there in front of Animu and take a picture,\u201d Apatang said.<\/p>\n<p>Starting last 4th of July, Animu is and will be the Liberation Day mascot for years to come. It is a latte stone-shaped figure but personified and named after a Chamorro word for encouragement.<\/p>\n<p>Apatang said Animu will not replace the Saipan-da mascot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not trying to replace Saipan-da.
