Eloy S. Inos on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Public Law 19-10 gives CNMI veterans a discounted operator\u2019s license fee benefit.<\/p>\n<p>The law amends a previous Commonwealth code and states that a fee of $40 will be paid for each operator\u2019s license issued, with the exemption of an operator\u2019s license issued to a veteran. A fee of $10 shall be paid for each duplicate or substitute license. The operators\u2019 license fee for a veteran shall be 25 percent less than the fee charged for a similar operator\u2019s license, the bill states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Legislature finds that many brave men and women of the Commonwealth willingly answered the call to defend the freedoms we are enjoying by fighting for our country not only in foreign lands but also in our islands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA meaningful way to show our gratitude is by lowering the operator\u2019s license fees for veterans,\u201d the bill states. \u201cOther states and territories have provided such benefits to its veterans and it is time that the Commonwealth further honors the contributions and the sacrifices made by the sons and daughters of the Commonwealth that have led to the freedom we enjoy today,\u201d the bill states.<\/p>\n<p>The bill states that in order to avail of the benefit, the veteran must have served 180 consecutive active service days; must be honorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces; and that they must be certified eligible by the CNMI Veterans Office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Military veterans from the CNMI will get discounted fees for driver\u2019s licenses via a new&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":47,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[26,1275],"class_list":["post-212500","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-cnmi","tag-public-law"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/212500","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/47"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=212500"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/212500\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=212500"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=212500"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=212500"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
