Mount Carmel School students fared very well in the recently administered SAT-10 and College Board AP national standardized tests, according to a school statement. It said the results show significant improvement in all subjects across all grade levels.\u00a0On average, students performed at or above the 50th percentile on the SAT-10 and improved from the previous year.<\/p>\n

For the complete 2015 battery, the average performance of all students was in the 57th percentile. National percentile ranks indicate the relative standing of a student in comparison with other students in the same grade in the norm reference group who took the test at a comparable time. Based on the school\u2019s results, students at Mount Carmel School scored, on average, better than 57 percent of the rest of the nation.

\nPerformance on specific subject areas also showed marked improvement from previous years. The average performance in math increased from the 54th percentile in 2014 to the 62nd percentile in 2015, while the average performance in reading increased from the 42nd percentile in 2014 to the 55th percentile in 2015. The average in science increased from the 50th percentile in 2014 to the 58th percentile in 2015, while the average in social studies increased from the 46th percentile in 2014 to the 55th percentile in 2015.<\/p>\n

High school students also demonstrated marked improvement in the College Board AP Tests. In AP Biology, average student performance improved by 28 percent from 2014 to 2015, while average student performance in AP English improved by 40 percent in the same timeframe.<\/p>\n

School president Galvin Deleon Guerrero attributed the success to the school\u2019s consistent emphasis on instructional quality and new initiatives to boost literacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are constantly improving in the area of instructional quality, especially with the leadership of our new principal, Frances Taimanao,\u201d he said. \u201cPlus, new tools like Achieve3000 are helping our teachers meet the individual needs of all our students.\u201d \u00a0
