{"id":212910,"date":"2015-10-22T06:00:50","date_gmt":"2015-10-21T20:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=212910"},"modified":"2015-10-22T06:00:50","modified_gmt":"2015-10-21T20:00:50","slug":"library-to-reopen-after-soudelor-damage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/library-to-reopen-after-soudelor-damage\/","title":{"rendered":"Library to reopen after Soudelor damage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saipan\u2019s state library, the Joeten Kiyu Public Library, has been closed to the public since Typhoon Soudelor hit the island in August.<\/p>\n<p>After almost three months, the library in Susupe will reopen for the first time next Tuesday, Oct. 27, according to acting library director Erlinda Naputi.<\/p>\n<p>Naputi said the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. was able to reenergize the library last Oct. 11.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, JKPL will operate with limited services and hours.<\/p>\n<p>Naputi said the library will be open on Tuesdays through Fridays from 1pm to 6pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 2pm.<\/p>\n<p>She added that JKPL\u2019s total damage is still being assessed. Among the library\u2019s exterior and interior damage are its torn roof, resulting in major leaks; some books also got ruined. Molds were also a problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDamage is still being assessed. Besides structural damage, some of our computers, monitors, and backup batteries are no longer able to function,\u201d Naputi said.<\/p>\n<p>Penalties for those who weren\u2019t able to return overdue books in July and August will be waived.
