{"id":213049,"date":"2015-10-26T06:06:11","date_gmt":"2015-10-25T20:06:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=213049"},"modified":"2015-10-26T06:06:11","modified_gmt":"2015-10-25T20:06:11","slug":"cca-holds-fundraiser-for-breast-cancer-awareness-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/cca-holds-fundraiser-for-breast-cancer-awareness-month\/","title":{"rendered":"CCA holds fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Cancer Association and their partners held their mini signature fundraising event last Saturday as part of their observation of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.<\/p>\n<p>The event, called Pink Warrior in honor of those who\u2019ve survived cancer, gathered families and supporters at the Naked Fish Bar and Grill.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the main event, a moment of silence was observed to honor those who struggled and are struggling with cancer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Commonwealth Cancer Association just wants to thank everybody for what you\u2019ve done for CCA,\u201d said program manager Juan Babauta said \u201cOn behalf of the executive director Lauri Ogumoro, the board, and membership, we extend our appreciation to those who have come together and help us raise funds. And not just raising funds, but to raise awareness on breast cancer and in support of what CCA is doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Funds were raised through tickets worth $20 each, which covered a drink, raffle, and entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>Raffle tickets worth a dollar each were also sold with gift certificates, gift packs, and luxury items as prizes.<\/p>\n<p>Babauta said the funds they raised will go to a very good cause. \u201cWe\u2019ll continue to provide support for survivors. We\u2019ll continue to provide financial assistance, comforting and all that during the recovery period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CCA\u2019s partners include Bank of Guam, Department of Fire and Emergency Management Services, Best Sunshine International Ltd., Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., Department of Public Health, Kanoa Football Club, and MarPac.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first year for the fire department to partner with CCA for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOctober is Fire Prevention Month. What we did was we looked at other causes that are out there and the Breast Cancer Awareness is also their month so we met with CCA and said we would work together in spreading awareness of both breast cancer and fire prevention,\u201d said Fire Commissioner Clyde Norita.<\/p>\n<p>Norita said they are looking at partnering with the Department of Public Safety with their drunk and drug driving prevention program in December.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the day, the CCA also held their Pink Warrior walk-a-thon to raise funds and raise awareness about breast cancer.
