The U.S. government amended yesterday the indictment filed against Alexandra Castro Macabalo, a woman facing a charge in federal court for enticing her then-15-year-old cousin to engage in sex for cash with a government official in 2013.<\/p>\n
The amended indictment still has the same charge of one count of enticement of a minor.<\/p>\n
The original indictment charged Macabalo with enticement of a minor by \u201cpersuading, inducing, and enticing\u201d a minor to either \u201cengage in prostitution,\u201d or \u201cany sexual activity for which any person could be charged with a criminal offense.\u201d<\/p>\n
The amended indictment removed the second clause.<\/p>\n
U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona allowed the U.S. government to amend the indictment.<\/p>\n
Manglona said by dropping the second clause, the proposed amended indictment simply withdraws \u201cone alleged method of committing\u201d the crime.<\/p>\n
\u201cSuch a narrowing does not require resubmission to the grand jury,\u201d said Manglona in granting the U.S. government\u2019s motion to amend the indictment.<\/p>\n
Federal Bureau of Investigation agents arrested Macabalo last April after a complaint was filed in court, charging her with enticement of a minor to engage in prostitution and other sexual activity.<\/p>\n
