{"id":213664,"date":"2015-11-03T06:06:27","date_gmt":"2015-11-02T20:06:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=213664"},"modified":"2015-11-03T06:06:27","modified_gmt":"2015-11-02T20:06:27","slug":"hundreds-flock-to-cemeteries-for-annual-observance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/hundreds-flock-to-cemeteries-for-annual-observance\/","title":{"rendered":"Hundreds flock to cemeteries for annual observance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hundreds of faithful parishioners descended on the Chalan Kanoa cemetery to remember their departed loved ones in a rosary and Church service Sunday and Monday for All Saints\u203a Day and All Souls\u203a Day, respectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Parish priests, Mt. Carmel School\u203as National Honor Society, and the San Antonio Parish youth choir joined the island\u203as Catholic community in prayerful silence as Diocese of Chalan Kanoa Apostolic Administrator Fr. Ryan Jimenez presided alongside Fr. Ike Ayuyu and Fr. James Balajadia. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In his sermon, Jimenez reminded parishioners that in death \u201cwe are all the same.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn life we use human worldly criteria that makes each one of us different from each other: the rich, the poor, the prominent, the known and the unknown,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen we die we are all the same. In the eye\u2019s of God, even when we are still living, we are equal. We are all children of God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jimenez urged those in attendance to see their peers and neighbor\u203as without judgment and with equality during life and after they pass.<\/p>\n<p>Balajadia, who preached at last year\u203as service, said that All Saints\u2019 Day is a time for people to ask those who have departed to pray for them so that \u201cwe may imitate them and follow in their example of mercifulness.\u201d\u00a0On All Souls\u2019 Day, he added, people pray for the souls who are not in the final destination:\u00a0heaven.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe pray that they reach the promise land,\u00bb he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Youth, he explained, should especially observe this time of the year with reflection and prayerful silence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn struggle we have to persevere. We should never give up. That is real faith,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u201c We must pray for a life of joy and happiness. We pray to experience the kind of joy and happiness with God that no person or creature can take away from us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Flowers decorated the graves of departed loved ones Sunday while the island is still recovering from Typhoon Soudelor.
