Volunteers from the organization World Renew are on island to help in disaster recovery. Six volunteers from the group were introduced to the CNMI Commonwealth Advocates for Recovery Efforts or CARE at a meeting yesterday.<\/p>\n
The volunteers are on island through an interagency grant given to the American Red Cross by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to assist in the disaster case management.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have an amazing array of experience in construction estimation and construction supervision,\u201d said Grayce Warren-Boulton of the Washington office of the American Red Cross.<\/p>\n
Among the World Renew\u2019s mission is to respond to urgent needs that arise when disasters strike, which includes clearing debris, assessing needs, training local leaders, and repairing and rebuilding damaged homes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey will get referrals from the case managers. They will go to homes and will produce construction estimates that the case managers will share with the Unmet Needs Table. That allows us to\u2026determine exactly what kind of resources will be needed,\u201d CARE director Jenny Hegland said.<\/p>\n
Hegland added that cases for assessment could go to the Unmet Needs Table of CARE within the next two weeks.<\/p>\n
According to ARC-NMI Chapter executive director John Hirsh, the group will begin visiting about four to five families today.<\/p>\n
