A maintenance worker of the Tinian Department of Community and Cultural Affairs was arrested for allegedly committing traffic offenses and possession of methamphetamine or \u201cice\u201d in San Jose, Tinian on Friday night.<\/p>\n
Gary Michael Cruz Cepeda, 48, was taken to Saipan Superior Court yesterday for possession of controlled substance. His bail was initially set at $10,000 cash. Assistant public defender Tillman Clark appeared as his counsel.<\/p>\n
Police detective Rudolfo Sauares Hermosilla Jr. stated in his report that he and another police officer conducted a routine patrol heading north of Bank of Guam Route 201 in San Jose, Tinian when they saw a vehicle with no taillights heading north on a gravel road Friday at 9:12pm.<\/p>\n
Hermosilla said they flagged down the vehicle behind Bank of Guam. The driver, identified as Cepeda, stated that he did not have with him his driver\u2019s license and car registration.<\/p>\n
When Hermosilla asked if he had something on him that would hurt the officer if he checks him before securing him in a police unit, Cepeda said he had a straw containing \u201cice\u201d in his left pocket.<\/p>\n
After police recovered the straw, a K-9 dog was brought to the scene and it showed signs of interest in the suspect\u2019s car.<\/p>\n
The officer searched the vehicle and allegedly saw drug paraphernalia on the car\u2019s seat.<\/p>\n
Cepeda was booked and detained after being cited with faulty taillights and not having in his possession a valid driver\u2019s license.<\/p>\n
Hermosilla said the crystalline substance in the straw tested presumptive positive for \u201cice.\u201d<\/p>\n
