As part of their yearly community service to the elderly, Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan treated dozens of the man\u2019amko yesterday to a Thanksgiving lunch to start the holidays.<\/p>\n
This is their seventh year of hosting the lunch. Entertainment and raffle prizes were also provided yesterday at the Hibiscus Hall of Fiesta Resort.<\/p>\n
Abner Acosta, general manager of the resort, said this is the hotel\u2019s way of giving back to the elderly.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust to remember them,\u201d Acosta told Saipan Tribune. \u201cThey are always in our hearts and prayers as a community.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is just one of our yearly activities and personally I look forward to this because I get to see them every year,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Marie Salinas, one of the many man\u2019amko at the lunch yesterday, said the event was a \u201csurprise\u201d for her.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey woke me up to bring me over here,\u201d she said. \u201cToday is also my birthday. It\u2019s like celebrating my birthday.\u201d<\/p>\n
Salinas and another man\u2019amko, Jess Pangelinan, said they are thankful for the luncheon for this seventh consecutive year.<\/p>\n
What else are they thankful for this holiday season?<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are thankful to the Lord,\u201d Pangelinan said. \u201cWe had a typhoon but nobody was killed. We are very thankful for that. We are very thankful for the federal government coming in and helping and giving us all kinds of assistance.\u201d<\/p>\n
Salinas also noted that this was the man\u2019amko\u2019s first get-together since the storm in August as the Aging Center has been closed.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe haven\u2019t talked to each other. We haven\u2019t seen each other,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe miss each other,\u201d added Pangelinan.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is like an emotional get-together now,\u201d Salinas noted. \u201cAny occasion we get to see other is a happy occasion.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
