Sablan\"\/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-215287\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kilili C. Sablan<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nDelegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (Ind-MP) said yesterday he has filed with the Federal Election Commission his intent to run for the CNMI\u2019s U.S. delegate seat in Congress in 2016. Sablan told reporters he filed his form with the election commission on Monday but stopped short of an official announcement for his re-election, saying he still consulting with his wife, Andrea, and his working committee on a potential bid.<\/p>\n<p>However, many believe a run by Sablan\u2014who is his fourth term as delegate\u2014is forthcoming, as he aims to get the federal government to \u201ccover over\u201d the costs of earned income tax credits in the CNMI\u2014an initiative he has aimed for awhile now\u2014secure his legacy, and set up his successor, with rumors swirling that he will run for governor in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Sablan said he is continuing to talk about a possible re-election bid with his wife and will be getting his core committee team together in December.<\/p>\n<p>Sablan also addressed yesterday rumors that he will run for governor in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is my dream job,\u201d he told reporters. \u201cI have no ambition to run for governor\u2026but when circumstances change, not for me personally but when we continue to see things happen\u201d that are \u201cunfortunately and heavy-handedly, not in the best interests of the people of the Northern Marianas\u2014who knows?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Saipan Tribune asked Sablan to elaborate on what are \u201cnot in the interests\u201d of the CNMI, he said: \u201cThere are things\u2014you report them yourselves\u2014were laws are changed to accommodate a particular\u201d entity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat doesn\u2019t happen in a democracy,\u201d he added. He did not elaborate further.<\/p>\n<p>Sablan noted, though, that people should give the administration of Gov. Eloy S. Inos and Lt. Gov. Ralph DLG Torres \u201ca chance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a new administration. They are in their first year also,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>When talks shifted to his possible successor as delegate, Sablan said, \u201cI am 60 years old,\u201d adding that he looking for someone younger and is eyeing to set a foundation for the next delegate to use as a springboard.<\/p>\n<p>Sablan flies back to Washington D.C. this weekend as the House returns to session but he will be back on island before Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>Sablan, who underwent spinal surgery in March, also touched on the issue of his health. He disclosed that on a recent trip to Rota he suffered a fall and hit the exact area in his back where his recent surgery had \u201ccut.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy doctor and I are trying to arrive at a decision on whether I should get another surgery,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Delegate Gregorio Kilili C.
