(Daisy Demapan)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cElves\u201d began packing toys yesterday morning for Karidat\u2019s annual toy drive as community partner donations have been pouring in with Christmas only three days away.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald\u2019s owner Joe Ayuyu donated $1,000 to the toy drive to benefit families in need and to lift the spirit of those who continue to experience the after effects of Typhoon Soudelor.<\/p>\n<p>Karidat executive director Lauri Ogumoro said that about 50 families comprising over 200 children and occupants at the women\u2019s shelter will be the recipients of the toys.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe community has been very generous with helping us out. We were a little worried at the beginning that we weren\u2019t going to get enough toys but all of a sudden there\u2019s an avalanche of toys,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Tuesday, will be the cutoff date for donations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very thankful to McDonald\u2019s and all the people who have supported us throughout the year and especially through Typhoon Soudelor. It\u2019s going to be a very important Christmas for everyone,\u201d Ogumoro said.<\/p>\n<p>Many families lost so much this year and the toy drive serves to bring them some holiday cheer, she added.<\/p>\n<p>Ayuyu said he is happy that Karidat continues to be of great help to the community despite its many challenges.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cYou know, if there\u2019s anybody that really needs help, it\u2019s [Karidat].
