This early, DPW Secretary James Ada is hoping that his agency would finish all projects on time.

In an interview with Saipan Tribune last Thursday, Ada said that among DPW’s priority is the renovation of the sports facilities inside the Oleai Sports Complex that were damaged by Typhoon Soudelor.

“Right now, we are doing our scope of work for the [Francisco M. Palacios] Tan Ko baseball field, [Miguel Pangelinan] Tan Ge softball field, the Ada gym, and the track,” said Ada.

He said the only things included in the track facility are the steel fence and the broken enclosure for the hammer throw since it is also due for resurfacing from a separate funding source early next year.

Restoring the Beach Road pathway to its former state is also part of DPW’s development plan, according to Ada.

“We’re going to bring the pathway back to shape and light it up for the safety of tourists and people who jog, walk, and bike there. A private engineer is helping us,” Ada said.
He said that DPW would install a different type of LED lights to illuminate the pathway as well as the area in Garapan from Bank of Saipan to Paseo de Marianas.

On Tinian, the road from the Tinian International Airport to the beach is due for resurfacing while a water tank will also be built.

On Rota, the street connecting the Rota International Airport to the downtown area would be paved.

Ada said most of DPW’s projects are locally funded and his department is set to receive more equipment that will help speed up the completion of their work.

The Department of Public Works will have a busy year ahead in 2016.
