Mt. Carmel School and three other teams won their debuts in the 2015 Tan Holdings Christmas Basketball Tournament last Saturday night at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.<\/p>\n
The Lady Knights were pitted against Kagman in one of the two women\u2019s games in the opening day of the annual league, dubbed Holiday Hoops, and cruised to a 62-23 win.<\/p>\n
Tawnie Manibusan top-scored in MCS\u2019 easy victory, firing 17 points, including the team\u2019s last 7 markers that put the finishing touches in the Knights\u2019 rout of the hapless Kagman. Manibusan and company set up the lopsided win after taking a 34-12 halftime lead.<\/p>\n
Jan Travilla knocked in 14 points in the first half to help the Knights dictate the tempo of the match before Manibusan took over in the second and pound Kagman. No Kagman player scored in double figures as it was clearly outgunned by MCS shooters.<\/p>\n
In the other women\u2019s division match, Sun Palace also eased past Lob City, 44-28.<\/p>\n
Chevy Kate Alipio and Irish Pagarao teamed up in Sun Palace\u2019s demolition of Lob City, scoring 22 and 14 points, respectively. The duo alternately hit baskets in streaks to lift Sun Palace to a 16-point winning margin.<\/p>\n
Pagarao and Alipio made all but 4 of Sun Palace\u2019s 21 points in the first half, which ended with Lob City behind by only 6. Alipio then registered 8 of Sun Palace\u2019s first 12 points in the second frame, while Pagarao had a string of 7 markers before the former wrapped up the game by nailing the team\u2019s last three baskets.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Ol\u2019Aces and Rollers 1 won the two boys U19 division matches last weekend.<\/p>\n
Rollers 1 whipped the Runnin\u2019 Rebels, 67-55, while the Ol\u2019Aces outclassed Rollers 2, 58-45.<\/p>\n
Rollers 1 blew the game wide open in the second half after leading by only 3 at the break, 27-24.<\/p>\n
Jethro Cruz anchored the breakaway, firing all his 13 points in the final 20 minutes of play. Mike Arciaga and Prince Factor combined for 15 more points in the second half to back up Cruz.<\/p>\n
The Runnin\u2019 Rebels was led by the 20 points of Greg Sablan.<\/p>\n
In the other boys U19 tiff, the Ol\u2019Aces leaned on the 16 points of Aiferon Atan to beat Rollers 2. Nak Nakashima also helped the Ol\u2019Aces\u2019cause, adding 11 points.<\/p>\n
The boys U19 division has five teams with the 670 Sonics completing the field, while two more are entered in the women\u2019s division with Party Droppers and Chow Time rounding out the list. Games are played every Thursday and Saturday only.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
