{"id":217796,"date":"2016-01-04T06:06:57","date_gmt":"2016-01-03T20:06:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=217796"},"modified":"2016-01-04T06:06:57","modified_gmt":"2016-01-03T20:06:57","slug":"khss-staffler-is-teachers-karaoke-champ","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/khss-staffler-is-teachers-karaoke-champ\/","title":{"rendered":"KHS\u2019s Staffler is teachers\u2019 karaoke champ"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kagman High School principal Leila Staffler was a special guest at the KKMP radio station last Thursday where she was presented with her award and prize as the winner of the Teachers\u2019 Karaoke Competition held last December.<\/p>\n<p>Staffler sang Cece Peniston&#8217;s 1991 hit Finally live on radio.<\/p>\n<p>KKMP and other organizers of this year\u2019s Christmas in the Marianas presented certificates and cash prizes that day to those who weren\u2019t able to attend the awarding ceremony last month.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to being its principal, Staffler was a teacher at KHS since 2001. She also once placed second in a singing competition held at Tinian Dynasty and Casino.<\/p>\n<p>Staffler said she used to sing in open mike bars with friends while studying at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did not have any neighbors where I live on the hills, so I sing like I&#8217;m in an opera. My only audience were the dogs and chickens,\u201d Staffler said.<\/p>\n<p>She said her biggest influence was her mom who enjoys singing karaoke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish I took formal music classes while in college or studied in a conservatory. Music is my passion,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Staffler is already anticipating next year\u2019s Teacher\u2019s Karaoke competition, not because she will be joining again but because she gets to sit as one of its judges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNext year I will be judging the contest since the champion will sit as one of the judges according to the rules. I will get to see who steps up next year.
