Alvin is the CNMI\u2019s 2016 New Year baby as he was first to be born in the Commonwealth this year at 7:41am last Jan. 1. (Frauleine Villanueva-Dizon)<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nThe Estrada family\u2019s unexpected blessing came early this year when they welcomed 2016 with a bouncing baby boy.<\/p>\n<p>After 10 grueling hours of labor, the 7.4-lb healthy baby was born at 7:41am on Jan. 1, to couple Joseph and Lorielyn Estrada from San Jose, Tinian.<\/p>\n<p>Despite labor pains starting around 9pm on Dec. 31, Lorielyn said they were still able to ring in the New Year with the whole family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe watched the fireworks around the island from here,\u201d Lorielyn said.<\/p>\n<p>The baby, the second male to be born in the family, was given the name Alvin by his older brother, Luis John.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like the name Alvin,\u201d 7-year-old LJ said, who, according to his parents, was extremely excited to welcome his younger sibling to the world and have a new playmate. <\/p>\n<p>According to Lorielyn, she didn\u2019t expect to deliver the baby on the first day of the New Year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis due date was Jan. 3,\u201d Lorielyn said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was only 39 weeks and five days,\u201d Joseph added. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew he was going to be delivered on New Year,\u201d grandmother Sonya chimed in. <\/p>\n<p>The family said they didn\u2019t expect to have another baby in the family but Alvin is a very welcome blessing. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is an unexpected blessing,\u201d Lorielyn said.<\/p>\n<p>Alvin is supposed to be the third child of the Estradas but they experienced the loss of their baby girl when she suffered umbilical cord prolapse during her birth four years ago.<\/p>\n<p>As has become tradition, MarPac gave gifts to this year\u2019s New Year baby.<\/p>\n<p>The MarPac Consumer Department with Frank Mettao, Bradley Babauta, Shirley Santos, and Michelle Villacrusis surprised the Estrada family with a visit and showered baby Alvin and his mother with gifts.<\/p>\n<p>MarPac gave boxes of Huggies diapers, Huggies baby wipes, a Mead Johnson bag, Enfamil formula, Kotex and a Go Green bag.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thankful to MarPac,\u201d Lorielyn said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you very much for giving us these blessings,\u201d Joseph added.<\/p>\n<p>The family was discharged from the hospital yesterday but will be returning to Tinian next week.<\/p>\n<p>Both parents work at the Tinian Dynasty &amp; Casino as part of its food and beverage department and, although times are hard for them in terms of their company right now, Lorielyn noted that it was really good for them that they were able to save.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven before I was pregnant we were really saving up,\u201d Lorielyn said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Liza Anda, a nurse at the Commonwealth Health Center obstetrics unit, one more couple welcomed a new baby on Jan. 1 at around 2pm. <\/p>\n<p>She also noted that there were many babies that were born on Dec. 31 compared to the New Year babies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Estrada family\u2019s unexpected blessing came early this year when they welcomed 2016 with a&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":51,"featured_media":217868,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[900],"tags":[668,26,4471,235],"class_list":["post-217867","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-featured","tag-baby","tag-cnmi","tag-new-year","tag-san-jose"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/217867","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/51"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=217867"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/217867\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/217868"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=217867"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=217867"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=217867"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
