PIC staff and management are out and about selling ducks in the community and, with the help of social media, around the world. A limited number of ducks will also be sold at the Garapan Street Market on Jan. 21 and 28.

PIC director of sports, entertainment and activities Glenn Policare said duck sales are already going strong. “We have quite a few repeater guests in-house right now who have been part of the duck race for years. Russian, Korean, and Japanese guests have already picked up their ducks to help the cause.” Aside from Saipan, ducks have been sold to buyers in Guam, Thailand, Hawaii, and all over the mainland U.S. “It is truly incredible to see the support we get for this event each and every year,” said Policare.

Prior to the rubber duck race, PIC Saipan will once again be hosting the famous Race around the River. This is better known as the Human Duck Race. Last year’s winner, Takumi Sugie, who represented Saipan International School, was the fastest swimmer in the event. This year, companies will be asked to submit three participants to the 2016 relay. “To try and even out the field and to allow more participation, this year’s Human Duck Race will have three-person teams battling for top honors and the perpetual trophy,” said Policare.

There are 24 available slots for the human duck race. Bridge Capital, LLC and the Saipan Swim Club were the first two organizations to confirm participation.

The entry fee for companies is only $50 and the winning team of the Human Duck race will receive three PIC membership passes.
