The Commonwealth Advocates for Recovery Efforts recognized the need to take action on nine major unmet needs cases after convening at the Governor\u2019s Office conference room yesterday.<\/p>\n
The steering committee noted that identifying information of the families is confidential, but that an ongoing process to gather resources continues with the American Red Cross-NMI Chapter awaiting on a couple of receivables from the CNMI government.<\/p>\n
The Coordinated Assistance Network, or CAN, which has been the driving force in determining the eligibility of clients who need assistance with rebuilding their homes, reveals that a total of 318 cases have been closed with 810 current open cases. The top 3 needs for home repair and rebuilding, household goods in terms of appliances, and household goods such as furniture, as reported in November still remains the same.<\/p>\n
CARE\u2019s construction committee, in considering home options, visited the Greenstay homes in Garapan but has not considered the option as pricing of the homes is unclear.<\/p>\n
The public health committee noted that they are hoping to begin a mobile clinic by the end of January or the beginning of February and future plans for establishing a free clinic is under consideration.<\/p>\n
The volunteer management committee, supported by Best Sunshine International, Ltd.\u2019s corporate social responsibility team after Americorps\u2019 departure will be conducting a debris removal in Koblerville from 8:30am to 12pm. The meeting site will be near the basketball court at the Koblerville Youth Center.<\/p>\n
CARE director Jenny Hegland noted that the concept paper for two Americorps VISTA positions has been approved and a final application will be submitted in the next few weeks.<\/p>\n
She added that no match funding will be necessary and the program allows for the recruiting of a resource development person for CARE and for food pantry development for Karidat.<\/p>\n
