{"id":218580,"date":"2016-01-13T06:00:44","date_gmt":"2016-01-12T20:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=218580"},"modified":"2016-01-13T06:00:44","modified_gmt":"2016-01-12T20:00:44","slug":"male-chinese-tourist-drowns-on-tinian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/male-chinese-tourist-drowns-on-tinian\/","title":{"rendered":"Male Chinese tourist drowns on Tinian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Chinese male tourist drowned while swimming at Tachogna Beach on Tinian yesterday afternoon. <\/p>\n<p>Tinian Department of Public Safety director John Santos confirmed last night that there was a drowning incident and that the victim, a tourist, was flown to the Commonwealth Health Center on Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>Santos refused to release more details pending further investigation of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Saipan Tribune learned that the victim, a 29-year-old Chinese tourist, was swimming alone at Tachogna Beach.<\/p>\n<p>Beach concessionaire employees saw the victim already floating in the water and called the Tinian police.<\/p>\n<p>No other details were available as of press time. DPS Saipan is expected to release more information about the incident today, Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p>It is the first drowning incident in the CNMI this year.<\/p>\n<p>Last Dec. 16, a firefighter of the Commonwealth Ports Authority-Aircraft Rescue drowned while spear fishing at East Bay in Laolao, Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>Last Nov. 14, a male Chinese tourist diver drowned while three others were safely rescued by DPS personnel at Grotto in Marpi.<\/p>\n<p>Last June 16, a 60-year-old Korean female tourist drowned while snorkeling with family members on Managaha Island.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Chinese male tourist drowned while swimming at Tachogna Beach on Tinian yesterday afternoon.
