Ketungo\u2019 Chamorro, a webisode project for the promotion, practice, and preservation of the Chamorro language, has received plaudits from the neighboring island of Guam.<\/p>\n
According to Guam Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio, Ketungo\u2019 Chamorro is essential to cultural preservation.<\/p>\n
\u201cI commend [producer and director Valentina Rivera\u2019s] efforts in perpetuating the Chamorro language. It is critical to support programs which promote learning the Chamorro language, as it is a vital piece of our culture throughout the Mariana Islands,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
This commendation came Sunday when Rivera announced the premiere for Ketungu Chamorro or \u201cLet\u2019s Learn Chamorro\u201d webisode on www.riverspictures.com.<\/p>\n
Rivera later shared on her YouTube page that the premiere drew many viewers, maxing out the site\u2019s bandwidth.<\/p>\n
\u201cI used a video host that I thought would be sufficient for the show, but there were many users. Don\u2019t worry, I will move to the ever-friendly YouTube to have it be unlimited,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The pilot episode was funded by the Northern Marianas Humanities Council and now relies on community and business sponsorship to continue its educational program for a 20-episode season. <\/p>\n
