A woman accused of conspiring with two other persons to sell cartons of stolen cigarettes at various stores on Tinian, has entered a guilty plea and was slapped with a 14-day prison term. <\/p>\n
Elaine Mendiola Pangelinan signed a plea deal with the government and recently pleaded guilty to the offense of receiving stolen property, according to court documents obtained by Saipan Tribune yesterday.<\/p>\n
Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja accepted Pangelinan\u2019s guilty plea and the plea agreement.<\/p>\n
Naraja sentenced the defendant to one-year imprisonment, all suspended except 14 days.<\/p>\n
Pangelinan was given credit for time served of 14 days. It means she will no longer serve more prison time.<\/p>\n
Pangelinan was placed on probation for one year and was required to pay a $250 fine, $25 court fee, and $100 probation fee.<\/p>\n
Attorney Joe Hill served as court-appointed counsel for Pangelinan. Assistant attorney general Matthew Baisley appeared for the government.<\/p>\n
Police detective Shawn Lee SN. Borja stated in his report that police received a call on March 28, 2015, about a burglary case at Island Store on Tinian.<\/p>\n
Police learned that 125 cartons of cigarettes worth about $4,000 were stolen.<\/p>\n
