{"id":220523,"date":"2016-02-10T06:00:22","date_gmt":"2016-02-09T20:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=220523"},"modified":"2016-02-10T06:00:22","modified_gmt":"2016-02-09T20:00:22","slug":"deq-red-flags-3-sites-on-tinian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/deq-red-flags-3-sites-on-tinian\/","title":{"rendered":"DEQ red-flags 3 sites on Tinian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Division of Environmental Quality has red-flagged Unai Babui, Unai Chulu, and Leprosarium Beach 2 on Tinian and advises the public not to fish or swim within 300 feet of these locations for the next 48 hours or until otherwise notified.<\/p>\n<p>DEQ said samples collected from the three locations contained excessive concentrations of fecal indicator bacteria (enterococci) that exceeded he CNMI marine Water Quality Standards.<\/p>\n<p>However, studies have shown that storm water  runoff in tropical environments may also contain these bacteria from the natural environment,  which may not be directly associated with public health concerns. <\/p>\n<p>DEQ analyzes  samples of marine recreational and storm drainage water from 10 locations on Tinian. Marine Water Quality Reports are also provided at www.deq.gov.mp\/sec.asp?secID=52. Interested individuals and organizations can also receive email notifications weekly marine water quality reports. To do so please send an email to waterqualityreport@deq,gov.mp<\/p>\n<p>DEQ welcomes all inquiries as to the quality of the beach water.
