{"id":221041,"date":"2016-02-17T04:00:31","date_gmt":"2016-02-16T18:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=221041"},"modified":"2016-02-17T04:00:31","modified_gmt":"2016-02-16T18:00:31","slug":"wwii-ordnance-removed-from-saipan-port","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wwii-ordnance-removed-from-saipan-port\/","title":{"rendered":"World War II ordnance removed from Saipan port"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An all clear was issued for the Port of Saipan after the discovered unexploded ordnance was removed.<\/p>\n<p>The World War II ordnance was removed before noon yesterday, according to the ports office.<\/p>\n<p>Press secretary Ivan Blanco confirmed to Saipan Tribune the removal of the ordnance, adding that it was brought to the Marpi area for detonation.<\/p>\n<p>Blanco said that, according to U.S. Coast Guard, the unexploded ordnance was about 500 lbs.<\/p>\n<p>Last Friday, an area of the port was closed temporarily after the ordnance was found by a contractor, which was digging for the pipeline project for the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.<\/p>\n<p>It initially affected delivery of imports including fuel but it also resolved and the port was back to normal Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>After reporting to Sector Guam, a Unified Command was assembled which is<br \/>\nled by CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the U.S. Coast<br \/>\nGuard.
