The second suspect in the burglary at a doctor\u2019s house in Garapan last year has entered a guilty plea and was slapped with a six-month prison term.<\/p>\n
Bruce M. Iglecias, 33, pleaded guilty on Tuesday afternoon to the offense of receiving stolen property.<\/p>\n
Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo accepted Iglecias\u2019 guilty plea and the plea agreement.<\/p>\n
Govendo sentenced the defendant to one year in prison, all suspended except six months.<\/p>\n
The defendant was given credit of 180 days for time served. It means that he will be released from the Department of Corrections on April 6, 2016 at 8am.<\/p>\n
After his release, the defendant will be placed on probation for one year. He was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine, $25 for court costs, and $100 for probation service fee.<\/p>\n
Iglecias was required to perform 300 hours of community work service, stay away from the residence of Dr. Chao Hon Chiu during the probationary period, and write a letter of apology to the victim.<\/p>\n
The defendant was required to complete drug and alcohol counseling and is prohibited from consuming alcoholic beverages during the probationary period.<\/p>\n
Assistant attorney general Heather P. Barcinas appeared for the government. Attorney Daniel Guidotti served as counsel for the defendant.<\/p>\n
According to the factual basis of the plea deal, Iglecias received a Buddha statue knowing that it has been stolen from the owner, Chiu, between Aug. 23 to 26, 2015.<\/p>\n
Iglecias\u2019 co-defendant, Patrick Nick H. Muna, 19, pleaded guilty in November 2015 to theft and burglary in connection with the burglary at Chiu\u2019s house and stealing a battery from a Federal Emergency Management Agency\u2019s generator.<\/p>\n
Muna was slapped with a prison term of three years and six months for both cases.<\/p>\n
Muna admitted that he and Iglecias were behind the burglary at Chiu\u2019s house last Aug. 24.<\/p>\n
Police said Muna and Iglecias were also responsible for the burglary at Flor\u2019s Hair Salon and Girl Talk in the same one-storey commercial building on Beach Road, Garapan.<\/p>\n
