Ralph DLG Torres is in the nation\u2019s capital and will be attending a dinner with U.S. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama next week Feb. 22, according to the Office of the Governor yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>By invitation through the British Embassy and the National Governor\u2019s Association, officials will be discussing pertinent issues regarding the region. The National Governors Association (NGA) is the bipartisan organization of the nation\u2019s governors. Its members are the governors of the 55 states, territories, and commonwealths. <\/p>\n<p>Torres is also meeting with the National Governor\u2019s Association and will be attending the 35th U.S. Coral Reef Task Force Meeting. <\/p>\n<p>The NGA provides governors and their senior staff members with access to Capitol Hill officials to present policy initiatives to federal counterparts in the Obama Administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough NGA, governors share best practices, speak with a collective voice on national policy, and develop innovative solutions that improve state government and support the principles of federalism,\u201d the Office of the Governor said in a statement yesterday. \u201cThrough NGA, governors identify priority issues and deal collectively with matters of public policy and governance at the state and national levels.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn order to progress on issues affecting the people of the Commonwealth and ensure the security of the people, the economy and our environment, I will be addressing the nation\u2019s leaders and strive for continued dialogue and representation,\u201d Torres said in the statement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
