Women, young and old, packed the Office of the Governor\u2019s conference room in support of \u201cCNMI Women\u2019s Month\u201d this March 2016, as Gov. Ralph DLG, on his first day back at office from a trip in U.S. Capitol, signed the proclamation with Lt. Gov. Victor Hocog during proclamation signing event yesterday morning.<\/p>\n
Torres and Hocog also proclaimed March 8 as the International Women\u2019s Day in the CNMI, a day to celebrate the achievements of women while calling for greater equality.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s theme for International\u2019s Women Day for 2016 is \u201cPledge For Parity.\u201d<\/p>\n
The special dates to acknowledge woman\u2019s rights and international peace follows a United States proclamation in 1977 calling on member states to proclaim a day for women.<\/p>\n
The proclamation acknowledges women for their historic and unique role in the growth of the Commonwealth and for their role in providing the majority of the volunteer labor force.<\/p>\n
CNMI\u2019s women have been particularly important in the establishment of early charitable, philanthropic, and cultural institutions in the NMI, the proclamation states.<\/p>\n
The CNMI Women\u2019s Association will be hosting a series of events this month for reflect the accomplishments of women and honor their role in shaping the nation\u2019s history.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
