The Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office will be assisting the Department of Public Works with several road projects, especially secondary lanes and the road going up to Mt. Tapochao, according to Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang.<\/p>\n
Apatang said they are now prioritizing in helping DPW with road repairs, especially now that they are about to finish picking up debris left by Typhoon Soudelor in August last year.<\/p>\n
The SMO and the Commonwealth Advocates for Recovery Efforts have been cleaning up villages on Saipan every Saturday. They just finished Chinatown and Garapan and will now move to the Tanapag, San Roque, and As Matuis areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to pave the road leading up to Mt. Tapochao as people are expected to go up again in time for the Lenten season,\u201d said Apatang, who threw the ceremonial pitch in last Saturday\u2019s opening of the Saipan Little League at the Francisco M. \u201cTan Ko\u201d Palacios baseball field.<\/p>\n
Catholic faithful will be making the annual pilgrimage up to Mt. Tapochao starting on the night of March 24, Maundy Thursday, and more will be joining on Friday morning after the procession of the wooden cross from Mt. Carmel Cathedral to the summit of Saipan\u2019s highest peak.<\/p>\n
Opening up Naftan Road and the road leading to Obyan Beach and Old Man By The Sea will be next as soon as the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office acquires the necessary permits from Division of Environmental Quality, the Division of Coastal Resources Management, and the Division of Fish and Wildlife.<\/p>\n
Obyan Road is set to open once the World War II ammunition found by SMO personnel is properly disposed off.<\/p>\n
