Sixto Igisomar and Reps. Ed Propst, Angel Demapan, Vinnie Sablan, George Camacho, Edmund Villagomez, Francis Taimanao, and John Paul Sablan for their time in partnering with EVM’s Typhoon Soudelor disaster relief efforts. They have volunteered time and donated resources to help in offloading containers, distribution, and transportation.

EVM responded immediately after Typhoon Soudelor hit Saipan. Individuals affected by the typhoon came directly seeking help and other clients were referrals from the Red Cross and immediate DCM. Clothes, beddings, food, and water were provided to those in need. The response for aid was overwhelming to the point that the staff thought the store would be depleted of supplies. However, gratefulness is expressed for the generosity of individuals, businesses, organizations, both locally and off-island that began giving time and resources. To this day EVM is still able to assist those who need help.

Since August 2016, EVM has assisted 5,766 individuals with clothing, food, water, beddings, and medical and school supplies.

Half a container of hydro packets from the Operations Pacific Northwest group went to the Commonwealth Health Center. Aloha for Saipan team sent two 40-foot containers of goods and Christmas toys for children. Lawmakers from various precincts helped EVM to distribute the items and the toys were passed to 500 children of families whose houses were destroyed by the typhoon.

EVM’s caseworkers continue to help with unmet needs, giving away donated goods at the store, and making home visits. In addition, EVM has been working with CHC in assisting clients requiring medical help and for those who are sick at home and n need of equipment; such as walkers.

EVM director Rose Smith said, “I have witnessed two clients that are now able to get around with the use of walkers. Thanks to Senator Glenn Wakai and Aloha for Saipan team in Hawaii for their donation of walkers to EVM. We also share database with Red Cross and Karidat as we all know the needs of our clients.”

“We at EVM greatly appreciate all the donations that came our way to help out and for the ongoing income donations to further EVM’s outreach work.
