{"id":223021,"date":"2016-03-15T06:00:24","date_gmt":"2016-03-14T20:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=223021"},"modified":"2016-03-15T06:00:24","modified_gmt":"2016-03-14T20:00:24","slug":"shrm-wants-voice-heard-workforce-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/shrm-wants-voice-heard-workforce-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"SHRM wants voice to be heard on workforce issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new president for the Society for Human Resource Management-NMI Chapter wants their organization to take on a more active role in participating on issues involving the workforce in the CNMI.<\/p>\n<p>According to SHRM president Pina Deleon Guerrero, they would like to be more active in the community and make their own stand on various issues, including the Commonwealth-only workers and its imminent end in 2019, which will greatly impact the CNMI labor force.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would hope to that we as a group will have the voice in that. We would like to be heard,\u201d Deleon Guerrero said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe kind of taken a passive role. We were always more on the training side but I think it\u2019s due [this] time, I think the organization is already ripe enough to be actively involved in what happens to future workforce because that involves us,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>They also hope to look into bills and other policies affecting the workplace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes laws are passed and we didn\u2019t even comment on it, we didn\u2019t even review it and it does affect the workplace,\u201d Deleon Guerrero said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes we feel that we are so everyday activity that we don\u2019t take the time to educate ourselves. There are always changes, there are laws that are changing, the dynamics is changing. All those things we\u2019d like to touch base this year,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Deleon Guerrero added that they would like to provide more than their regular lunch topics which are set monthly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019d like to do a little bit more on like workshop so that we can develop more skills in people who are in HR,\u201d Deleon Guerrero said.<\/p>\n<p>This is Deleon Guerrero\u2019s second time to serve as SHRM\u2019s president.
