Sen. Sixto Igisomar (R-Saipan) hopes that future land use planning will set aside areas for Chamorro and Carolinian cultural monuments.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must come together and set aside a place, a monument for us to celebrate our heritage and where we came from and where we are heading,\u201d Igisomar told Saipan Tribune. \u201cFor example, if the land area in front of Kristo Rai Church is available, we can turn it into a ground for a monument.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe set aside huge set of lands for the Japanese monument, Sugar King Park,\u201d added Sen. Arnold Palacios (R-Saipan). \u201cWhere is the Chamolinian park? Where is the Latte park?<\/p>\n
During a Saipan local delegation hearing on Mario Taitano\u2019s appointment to the Zoning Board, Igisomar asked that the Zoning office come back to the Legislature and present their \u201cchallenges, best practices, and successes\u201d but also emphasized \u201cland use planning.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cStart zoning off areas,\u201d Igisomar told Saipan Tribune. \u201cOnce businesses come up like Best Sunshine [the Saipan casino], they are going to be encroaching. We need to now make a decision on which areas we should at least protect.\u201d<\/p>\n
