Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Best Sunshine International, Ltd. have discussed an early release of the casino license mandated \u201ccommunity chest fund\u201d of $20 million, Saipan Tribune learned.<\/p>\n
Per the 2014 licensing agreement, Best Sunshine has to release the $20 million to the CNMI government within 60 days after they start work on \u201cPhase 1\u201d of their project.<\/p>\n
Some think that\u2019s the Grand Mariana Casino Resort currently undergoing construction in Garapan, but that project, is BSI\u2019s \u201cinitial gaming facility\u201d per its license, and the community chest fund will be released on the \u201cnext building,\u201d eyed in Marpi, for \u201can end of 2018 payment,\u201d according to CEO Mark Brown.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf there is monies needed in advance, are we open to discuss that? Absolutely. And that\u2019s what the conversation was about,\u201d Brown said, when asked about the casino\u2019s discussions with the Torres.<\/p>\n
Brown said they have had close discussion on how they can continue to help the community, noting community needs and assistance to get the island back on track after Typhoon Soudelor last year.<\/p>\n
On advancing the chest fund money early, Brown said this was \u201cone piece of the conversation among multiple pieces.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cWould you ever give the $20 million sooner? If you need it. Would you ever do this, would you build us this? Yes. We\u2019ve had many discussions, whether it\u2019s on schools, public buildings, or on whether it\u2019s giving the chest fund earlier.
