{"id":224307,"date":"2016-03-31T06:00:19","date_gmt":"2016-03-30T20:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=224307"},"modified":"2016-03-31T06:00:19","modified_gmt":"2016-03-30T20:00:19","slug":"chicken-kelaguen-supplier-temporarily-shut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/chicken-kelaguen-supplier-temporarily-shut\/","title":{"rendered":"Chicken kelaguen supplier temporarily shut down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. has temporarily closed down the establishment involved in a food poisoning incident that caused over 20 people to be brought to the hospital Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>According to CHCC chief executive officer Esther Muna, the source of the food poisoning was identified as Franco\u2019s Yum Yum\u2019s chicken kelaguen. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe identified that they bought the chicken kelaguen from Franco\u2019s Yum Yum,\u201d Muna said, noting that the establishment is located in Kagman 3. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs soon as we found the source, we closed the location and also went to the other areas to the stores [where Franco\u2019s Yum Yum delivers] and removed if there\u2019s any leftover,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Muna said a total of 21 individuals were brought to the emergency room between 1pm and 11pm with most cases, or 12 individuals, brought in between 4pm and 8pm.<\/p>\n<p>Three cases were deemed not severe enough. Most cases were ambulatory with some arrivals through Emergency Medical Services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere may be other people that were poisoned but only 21 came to the ER,\u201d Muna said.<\/p>\n<p>Muna added that victims experienced acute vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain but no fever or neurological symptoms were reported. None of them also needed to be admitted to the hospital.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>CHCC\u2019s report said that inadequate food handling, food preparation, and refrigeration are most likely the source of exposure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now they\u2019re denying it but we have some suspicions of it,\u201d Muna said.<\/p>\n<p>She added that investigations are ongoing and that the vendor has been suspended from selling until CHCC recertifies them. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re basically under investigation. In order for them to be open, they need to basically be trained again.
