{"id":224816,"date":"2016-04-07T04:00:13","date_gmt":"2016-04-06T18:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=224816"},"modified":"2016-04-07T04:00:13","modified_gmt":"2016-04-06T18:00:13","slug":"224816","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/224816\/","title":{"rendered":"3rd Women\u2019s Summit concludes with plan of action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 3rd Women\u2019s Summit hosted by the CNMI Women\u2019s Association concluded on March 31, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Close to 200 people attended the Summit, including CWA clients, government employees, and retirees from Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.<\/p>\n<p>The Summit, which ran for two days, brought a panel of speakers looking to empower women as leaders in the home, workforce, and community. The participants discussed the status of women and what can be done to ensure \u201cGender Parity,\u201d as well as opportunities, challenges and actions.<\/p>\n<p>In her welcoming remarks, CWA president and co-founder, Rep. Felicidad Ogumoro (R-Saipan) called on women to continue advocating for their rightful place in the table. She said there needs to be more women in the political arena.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWomen are underrepresented in a lot of different areas, and one of them is in politics. We have achieved so much, but we still have a long way to go in achieving true equality,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>In the course of two days, participants identified issues and concerns important to women ranging from health, the environment, civic engagement, education, and training to contribute to the workforce and economy. The Summit culminated in an action plan to achieve goals by 2017. The 2017 Action Plan will be unveiled and routed to the membership and other key stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would like to thank the Women\u2019s Month and Summit planning committees and panelists, as well as every volunteer who devoted so much time and energy to the month long events culminating with the Women\u2019s Summit,\u201d said Jacqueline Che, Women\u2019s Summit chairwoman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Summit would not be possible without the help of our generous sponsors who enable the CWA to continue this Summit each year.
