The Lady Diann Foundation and the Northern Marianas College\u2014students, faculty, and staff\u2014teamed up to form a team for this year\u2019s Marianas March Against Cancer, set on May 13 and 14 at the Hopwood Junior High School grounds.<\/p>\n
The LDF-NMC MMAC team was among the more than 30 booths that joined the 35th NMC Charter Day, held last April 8 and 9, on NMC campus grounds. They sold baked goods, T-shirts, and mushroom burgers\u2014cooked by Gov. Ralph DLG Torres\u2014as part of their fundraising campaign.<\/p>\n
Irene Torres, one of those in charge of the fundraising drive, said a lot of people had already came to buy their items as well as raffle tickets with a live baby goat as prize. They also have a jail booth where those caught must match an amount for bail.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been a wonderful two days with the biggest hit is the mushroom burgers. It was a successful fundraising. People also bought our baked goods, T-shirts, and raffle tickets for the baby goat,\u201d said Torres.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are targeting a high amount for MMAC and the proceeds we collected in the Charter Day are a great start to our goal,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
She said that all volunteers who worked with them in their tent were tireless and unmindful of the fatigue despite being at the NMC grounds early in the morning to set up and work in their tent.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll volunteers who donated their time here have been awesome. All of us, we\u2019re not looking at it as work but just having fun in doing our share for the community. Thank you to all who supported our booth, and to all who continue to help us and would help us in our future events,\u201d said Torres.<\/p>\n
The Palauan Club, the NMC Nursing Club, Commonwealth Health Center Corp., the Corporate Social Responsibility Team of Best Sunshine International, Ltd.\u2014who are recruiting volunteers to help them in various community projects\u2014also had their respective tents. Food and various items\u2014from accessories, toys, and mobile phones\u2014were also sold.<\/p>\n
Live entertainment was also provided with the 30-member dance group 2911 of Ray S. Lizama and Three Shores band among those that performed.<\/p>\n
