The celebration opens on June 10 with the carnival and the parade is set on July 4.

Skywalker Communications Group account director Sophia Alvarez and Leni Leon are handling the applications for volunteers. Forms can be picked up at the Saipan Mayor’s Office or at Skywalker’s office at the Marianas Business Plaza in Susupe.

Interested individuals who want to volunteer, especially for overseas applicants, can also download the forms at the 2016 CNMI Liberation Day Festival’s Facebook page. The form is in PDF format.

Alvarez said they are encouraging all graduating students, in high school and college, who are trying to earn additional credits for their community service to sign up to volunteer and help plan in organizing the festival.

“We are accepting even those who are off-island and would love to volunteer, especially graduating students. We want to give them the chance to help organize the biggest celebration in the CNMI,” said Alvarez.

“This is open to all who are seeking volunteer opportunities. We want to introduce them to events planning and get the chance to be involved doing volunteer work and community service,”

Alvarez added that food, lodging, and transportation would be provided to off-island volunteers. One of the requirements for off-island volunteers is having some experience in helping organize huge events.

“A lot of people are sending us Facebook messages or calling the office inquiring on how to volunteer. We are generating attention and the interest is there from the community to go out and volunteer. We’re trying to have a better celebration this year,” Alvarez said.

“This is their chance to learn and get experience in events planning. This is a good chance for them to get involved in community work. We don’t have numbers yet on how many had already signed up but we are gaining ground,” she added.

Leon said that one of the ways they are using to attract volunteers is visiting schools. “We are conducting visits from different schools like [the Northern Marianas College].
