Gov. Ralph DLG Torres flew to Hawaii yesterday and has scheduled a meeting with Hawaii Gov. David Ige on April 14, the Office of the Governor said yesterday.<\/p>\n
Torres, who is being accompanied by Sen. Arnold Palacios (R-Saipan), will also be flying to American Samoa after his three-day trip in Hawaii to, among others, meet with Gov. Lolo Letalu Matalasi Moliga, the governor\u2019s office also said, on an invite to attend their Flag Day Celebration 2016, which falls on April 17.<\/p>\n
Torres on Monday told reporters that while in Hawaii, he would be meeting with Westpac Fisheries Council, the Hawaii Medical Referral Office, and Lt. Gen. Anthony Crutchfield, the single point of contact for the CNMI on Department of Defense matters, to talk to him about the \u201cTinian-only\u201d divert airfield project.<\/p>\n
On his America Samoa trip, Torres said he will be meeting with their power plant officials and looking into the feasibility of \u201ca fuel tank\u201d option for the CNMI\u2019s local utility.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are looking at having our own fuel tank here and seeing the feasibility if it\u2019s something we\u2019ll be able to get here and to build our own facility.\u201d<\/p>\n
Torres also said he be meeting with Moliga to learn more about federal grants and how American Samoa incorporates that into their annual budget.<\/p>\n
Torres this \u201cgives a better overview of the whole budget,\u201d which \u201cwe don\u2019t have here,\u201d as the NMI has federal grants separate from their general funds and revenue.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am going to be learning how that is done and how we can incorporate that into our government funding budget,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
