(Contributed Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The American Red Cross-NMI Chapter recently completed The Pillowcase Project-Disaster Awareness and Preparedness Presentations to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at Koblerville Elementary School.  <\/p>\n<p>The Pillowcase Project teaches the students and their families how to prepare for disasters. The Pillowcase Project curriculum consists of three core principles: Learn, Practice, and Share.  <\/p>\n<p>The students were taught about hazards, how to prepare for emergencies, enhance coping skills, practice what they have learned, and share their knowledge with friends and family.<\/p>\n<p>The program emphasizes the importance of developing an emergency communications plan, fire escape plan, and emergency contact cards.  <\/p>\n<p>The Pillowcase Project program also teaches the students the importance of preparedness in a fun and hands-on way.  <\/p>\n<p>The hands-on activities builds confidence and prepares children to take action during an emergency. The program also teaches students how to create their own emergency supply kits by packing essential items in a pillowcase for easy transport during an emergency.
