Mt. Carmel School will take part in the annual Marianas March Against Cancer this year as team \u201cJedi Knights.\u201d The island\u2019s sole Catholic educational institution has shown its support for MMAC and its efforts in the past years through its long running participation and fundraising.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s team captains, seniors Thomas Lee A. Manglona II and Cathryn Javier, said that they are committed to raising the bar for their school\u2019s involvement during the event in every aspect.<\/p>\n
Manglona and Javier have participated in MMAC since their freshmen year and coordinated their classes\u2019 involvement under the student council. As the co-captains gear up for this year\u2019s event alongside fellow student leaders, Javier expressed her excitement.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been meeting with the MMAC committee and making progress each time in planning our involvement,\u201d she added. \u201cOur commitment to the event is strong and we will contribute as much as we can in both time and energy as the date nears.\u201d<\/p>\n
Manglona noted that his school\u2019s participation is student-run every year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe students become more excited each year and some of them even stay for the entire 12 hours to run laps and assist at the booth,\u201d he said. \u201cOur theme this year for our tent and baton, Star Wars, comes from our school\u2019s super bowl commercial which garnered a lot of attention.\u201d<\/p>\n
Junior high and high school students will take turns running laps and selling food and glow-accessories on the night of the event.<\/p>\n
At the beginning of the year, MCS also started selling pink athletic and school uniforms for students to purchase, symbolic of their support in fighting cancer. A portion of the money collected will go toward the cause as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe students enjoy spending time with each other even though they are exhausted by the time it passes midnight. I think we all understand that this event is bigger than any single one of us.
