Kalinga Foundation held its second Medical Mission this year at the Garapan Basketball Court yesterday, offering more than just the usual blood pressure and blood sugar check up. Members of the Pentecostal Missionary Church of Christ (4th Watch), led by pastors Francis and Claire Javellonar, helped organize the project.<\/p>\n
Body massage and reflexology, counseling, facial cleansing, and haircut were some of the free services they offered aside from the usual blood sugar and blood pressure check and eye screening.<\/p>\n
Pastor Francis said that providing a variety of services had been Kalinga\u2019s trademark with its community work since they were still in the Philippines. They arrived on Saipan in 2001.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been doing this since 2001 at Koblerville and we did not stop providing these services to all the members of the community up to now. We just adopted what we\u2019ve been doing back in the Philippines, from the islands of Luzon to Mindanao.\u201d<\/p>\n
They usually do the Medical Mission twice a year but there was a special case when they celebrated their 10th year. \u201cWe\u2019ve done it every month as part of our 10th year celebration of providing these services to the community,\u201d said Pastor Claire.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also have free circumcision and dental services where a lot of doctors volunteer their time. But we can\u2019t do that here since the U.S. have strict rules as you have to be licensed,\u201d added Pastor Francis.<\/p>\n
