Diego, USDA Area II director, recently visited the CNMI Superior Court offices where he saw new computer hardware in use that had been funded by a Rural Development Community Facilities Impact Grant. The grant allowed for the installation of faster running work station computer equipment and provided for the migration away from the obsolete Windows XP operating system which the Clerks’ office had been using.

Systems Administrator Michael Villacrusis conducted the facilities tour and equipment demonstration. CNMI Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio, chairperson of the Judiciary’s Federal Grant Committee noted, “A small team of people dedicated a part of their time over the last year to the writing and submission of grants which provided needed capital equipment the Judiciary was otherwise unable to afford, given its restrictive budget. We certainly appreciate the help of Joseph Diego and Anthony Barcinas of the USDA Guam office in obtaining this assistance.”

Superior Court Clerk of Court Patrick V. Diaz manages the busy department, which was the beneficiary of the new equipment’s installation. The chief justice commented that “the new computers improve the efficiency of our staff and the use of the court’s hearings scheduling system. Our concern about the insecure nature of the old Windows XP system, its susceptibility to malware invasion, and potential negative impact on our records system has been eliminated. Thank you USDA.”

Joseph M.
