(Derek Gersonde)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Cooking with a gas stove triggered a fire at a one-story, semi-concrete house occupied by a family in San Vicente yesterday morning. <\/p>\n<p>No one was reported injured and no treatment was provided to anyone at the scene for medical complaints, according to Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Derek Gersonde.<\/p>\n<p>Gersonde said the fire only damaged the kitchen as firefighters were able to contain the blaze in that area.<\/p>\n<p>Gersonde said DFEMS received a call from the Department of Public Safety\u2019s dispatch about a structure fire at a residence across the baseball field in San Vicente at 8:37am.<\/p>\n<p>Firefighters from Susupe and Kagman fire stations responded and placed the blaze under control at 9am.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cause of the fire was found to be accidental,\u201d the DFEMS spokesman said.<\/p>\n<p>Arson Investigation Unit investigators learned that occupants of the house were cooking with a gas stove in the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>A lighted piece of paper was used as a pilot light.<\/p>\n<p>A member of the family exposed the lighted paper to combustible materials, triggering the fire.<\/p>\n<p>Last April 20, a moped driven by a man caught fire on the hill of Tun Joaquin Doi Road in Finasisu .The driver, a Chinese man, was not injured. <\/p>\n<p>Last March 28, a three-hour fire engulfed the Home &amp; Plus Department Store in San Antonio, which just opened for business last November. <\/p>\n<p>Last March 27, a bush fire burned acres of vegetation at Wireless Ridge on Capital Hill.<\/p>\n<p>Last Feb. 13, fire of unknown cause broke out at one of the rooms of Capital Hotel in Garapan. <\/p>\n<p>Last Feb. 11, a 3-year-old boy was injured when a fire broke out at an apartment in Susupe.  <\/p>\n<p>Last Jan. 20, a car caught fire in front of Mount Carmel School in Chalan Kanoa, while another fire broke out at a shipping container at the old dumpsite in Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cooking with a gas stove triggered a fire at a one-story, semi-concrete house occupied by&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":23,"featured_media":227118,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[900],"tags":[4234,3395,1111,428],"class_list":["post-227116","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-featured","tag-dfems","tag-last-march","tag-mount-carmel-school","tag-san-vicente"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/227116","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/23"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=227116"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/227116\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/227118"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=227116"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=227116"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=227116"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
