{"id":227498,"date":"2016-05-11T06:06:29","date_gmt":"2016-05-10T20:06:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=227498"},"modified":"2016-05-11T06:06:29","modified_gmt":"2016-05-10T20:06:29","slug":"anti-animal-cruelty-bill-makes-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/anti-animal-cruelty-bill-makes-house\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-animal cruelty bill makes it out of House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The House of Representatives passed a bill to prevent cruelty and theft of animals and provide penalties for such actions during a session on Rota yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the CNMI has no existing laws protecting animals from cruelty or theft.<\/p>\n<p>House Bill 19-55, authored by Rep. Ed Propst (Ind-Saipan), proposed fines ranging from $250 to $1,000 for cruel mistreatment, neglect, abandonment, and torture or torment of animals.<\/p>\n<p>The passage of the bill this month follows a standing committee report from the House committee on Natural Resources that recommended its passage.<\/p>\n<p>In that report, the committee found that the malicious acts of violence toward animals, which had been recorded and posted on Facebook and Youtube, paints a negative outlook on the CNMI.<\/p>\n<p>The committee found that as of 2007, some 1,880 cases of animal cruelty have been reported.<\/p>\n<p>If enacted into law, the bill would follow the 50 other U.S. states that have implemented some form of animal cruelty laws.<\/p>\n<p>If enacted, municipal mayors will be given expenditure authority of all fees and fines collected within their municipality from the bill.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The House of Representatives passed a bill to prevent cruelty and theft of animals and&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":47,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[26,401,194,9467],"class_list":["post-227498","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-cnmi","tag-facebook","tag-house-bill","tag-natural-resources"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/227498","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/47"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=227498"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/227498\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=227498"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=227498"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=227498"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
