Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang is asking the 2016 Liberation Day committee to finalize everything and is seeking committee accomplishment reports when they meet next week. The committee held their weekly meeting yesterday at the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office conference room.<\/p>\n
Apatang said he wants all issues to be resolved in one meeting for them to move forward in planning the Liberation Day festivities. The carnival is set to open on June 10, while the Liberation Day parade is on July 4.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery time we meet new issues come out. We must resolve everything first so we can move forward with the next things that need to be done in preparation for the Liberation Day celebration,\u201d said Apatang.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur next meeting should be report of accomplishments by the committees and not talk about the same issues. There\u2019s nothing new,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Among the issues that the committee agreed on yesterday is not to allow individuals to bring their beer around the carnival grounds.<\/p>\n
Liberation Day overall committee chair Chris Leon Guerrero said people who want to consume alcoholic beverages should only stay within the vicinity of the beer garden.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been like that the past years, we don\u2019t allow people to freely go around the grounds holding their beer. They should stay in one area. If it ain\u2019t broke why fix it?\u201d added Leon Guerrero.<\/p>\n
So far, only two beer concessionaires have submitted their intention to join the Liberation Day\u2014FrankenBrau and Saipan Brewery. Concessionaires\u2014either for beer, food, and non-food items\u2014have until today to submit their application.<\/p>\n
The beer concession has three slots left with the committee only reserving five. There were 25 concessions, food and others, that wanted to join the carnival.<\/p>\n
Once the concessionaires are finalized they will be allowed to move in from June 6 to 9 to start preparing and designing their respective booths.<\/p>\n
The concession fee is $1,500 that is applied to all vendors\u2014beer, food and non-food items. Others interested have until 4pm to submit their application at the Mayor\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
