She has been employed at Best Sunshine as a VIP hostess. Now, she says, she will have to return to China on June 7.

But it’s not just her; it’s hundreds of other CWs who will have to go back to their native lands. And then what?

Best Sunshine will definitely feel the hit, as well as many smaller businesses, as the USCIS turns a blind eye to the economic havoc they are wreaking. The casino may have to close without enough people to run it. And what of the hotel that is being built in Garapan?

Most of us assumed the cut-off date was 2019, but now it’s three years sooner. Why? What was the USCIS thinking? They know perfectly well there aren’t enough U.S. citizens to fill all of the vacancies—so why do this? They are stabbing the CNMI in the back.

Would it be possible for a federal judge to issue an injunction in order to protect the workers we so desperately need? That they may stay and work here until 2019?

I don’t know the law, or politics, but I do know this: the daughter I love is going back to China in a few days.
