(Frauleine Villanueva-Dizon)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Exactly 10 months after Typhoon Soudelor, the cleanup continues for the island and wastes are still being collected.<\/p>\n<p>At the Typhoon Soudelor Debris Staging sites, a total of 49,388 cubic yards of green waste, tin, and lumber were collected.<\/p>\n<p>The As Gonno staging site, which was closed in April, collected a total of 13,155 cubic yards of debris. At the Kagman staging site, which remains open for the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office, a total of 36,233 cubic yards of debris, majority being green waste was collected so far. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe closed down As Gonno in the last month, so the entire site has been cleaned up. It\u2019s actually a lot better that it was before we started to use it,\u201d Division of Environmental Quality director Ray Masga said. \u201cDPW (Department of Public Works) has done a great job in removing all of the waste.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no more debris that is being brought over to that site,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>For Kagman, DPW completed the removal of the tin debris and lumber last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to maintain the site open for the next two weeks or so, until the end of May,\u201d Masga said. \u201cThe Mayor\u2019s Office is still out there collecting green waste, Typhoon Soudelor-related.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Masga reminded the public, however, that the staging sites are closed to the public. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would like to notify the public that over the past month or so, there has been illegal dumping around the site and DPW has done a great job in removing those illegally disposed solid waste.
